SOSGA's Position

Following our last blog, and subsequent reply blog at STLC, we feel it is necessary to justify our current position.

Problems with the paypal account were first brought to light on Friday 19th September. Since this time James had apparently made no progress on fixing said problem. As of Wednesday 24th September we have received no further updates. Several of us tried to make contact with James via email, texting his mobile phone and MSN, when he was appearing online. He was unresponsive to our attempts.

On Saturday 27th September a final 2 texts were sent to James' phone requesting that he contact us in some way to update us. After threats to pull SOSGA’s collaboration a final ultimatum was sent. At 11pm Saturday 27th September, no communication had been received.

To understand the position of those at SOSGA, a problem with the Paypal account handling the donations is a major issue. Without updates it raised questions and our members were not willing to take any risks.

We harbor no ill feelings and we are committed to saving the show. We welcome any input members at STLC may have.

I just read both posts on both sites. I have been checking SOSGA and Save-the-Lost-City daily together since this campaign began. I was one of the first to send money for lemons, call at MGM, and send my own version of the lemon letter. Granted, I am not in the trenches with the rest of you, but doesn't this all seem really petty? I don't believe that James was trying to steal our money...I've got kids, a full time job, and can totally relate to not being accessible on my phone. Yet, I do appreciate your concerns. But with all of this, can't we be adult enough to carry on as a team. We are stronger together and have a louder voice.

I'm sure I'm only re-iterating what everyone else has said on the blogs, etc... I'm normally not very chatty on the internet, but this is a cause near and dear to my heart. Please reach out again to James, comment on his website, and I encourage the same to him. We are better than this, and our show needs us to stand tall.

The fans who lurk in the dark may not be the ones that can stand shoulder to shoulder in LA or with you at Bridge Studios, but we are there in spirit. Our hopes and hearts go with each of you as you tirelessly work towards a goal that we all wish to be achieved. And, I for one am very grateful for each and everyone of you.

Remember, you are our heroes. For our sake, stick together.

At the end of the day you need to plan something out before you go into something blind. Especially when it involves people's money. This paypal account should have been researched which it obviously was not, it unprofessional. James has acted irresponsibly in my opinion.

I don't think we should need to emerge into some war where james appears to be the injured party he should take responsibility rather than come up with excuses.

It seems like the fans are falling apart. :-( What happened to the way we were when the show was first cancelled? Everybody wanted to help, to work together and to fight. What happened?

Seems to me that there was some serious over reaction here - did no one even bother to research the paypal issues? These have been affecting UK CHARITIES and NOT FOR PROFIT groups for months now and theres plenty of information about on ebay forums and paypal forums as well as dedicated charity blogs etc. PayPal have absolutely ZERO understanding of the UK charity/not for profitit legislation, many many honest and genuine groups have had their accounts frozen in exactly the same way it appears this one was, and it can take MONTHS for them to unfreeze them and there is very little the groups affected can do to speed up the process. It doesn't mean there is anything untoward with those groups or any suggestion of any financial wrong doing it is just yet another of paypals useless and idiotic way of working.

Having spent several months myself as a representative of a registered UK Charity trying to get our account unfrozen and the monies donated to us to help save real lives released to us and having jumped through every hoop paypal asked for and then some and STILl it taking months to get paypal to even review the account to expect this matter to have been sorted in a few days was highly unrealistic.
